I haven't seen Queer as Folk, I'm a fan of Doctor Who though and RTD's tenure there is characterized by the same tonal shifts. But a bit of research on the episode pointed out to me the Hazel cameo and it's such a lovely tribute from RTD to QaF and its fans. And, yes, her monologue was so poignant and relevant. I'm

Yeah, Cucumber is pretty messy, mainly because of those jarring tonal shifts that @icecreamplanet:disqus mentions and some inconsistent character development, but it has some intense and masterful individual scenes. Off the top of my head, SPOILERS Henry's acknowledgement that he's been afraid of men his whole life,

That goofy dancing scene was just the best thing. Lovely episode, and for one that tackles death it felt very exuberant and bustling. They struck an elegant balance between the sorrow and the joy.

I felt so bad for laughing when Patrick cried. But it was so funny, I let out some massive belly guffaws.

I'd argue his easy charisma and aware acting keep Captain America from being just a pompous nationalist dud. Those movies are where he plays smooth pretty well, I'd say.

Probably because I binge-watched it and I wasn't involved first hand in all the over-analyzing that people did when it aired aided my enjoyment of it. And I do love mysteries in my tv series.

Lost! If you haven't seen it, although that's unlikely. I saw it for the first time last year and it was tons of fun. Fringe too.

They're British shows about queer people. They're wonderful, and they're coming to the US in April on Logo. Really beautiful shows, and I recommend them to everyone. There is nothing on the AV Club about them, but google them.

I'm a big fan of Von Trier, the one film of his that I dislike is Dancer in the Dark and only because it was so excruciating and difficult to watch. He always has something interesting to say and he's a master when it comes to the technical parts. And he's not a misogynist! He should just stop saying the first thing

I don't know if accessible is the right word. They're definitely so much better, and Ashes of Time left me cold too. What I was trying to say is that AoT is not a defining film for WKW's style, it's very different from his other movies, that are more arty and personal.

Wherever they go with those episodes I don’t think they can be better than this. I am looking forward to them, but I’m a bit anxious as I’m sure the sorrow is not done. Showing that character's life in a single episode really made him so real, and his death so much more impactful. If they deal with the aftermath as

Ashes of Time is the most plotty of all of WKW's movies and the least faithful to his aesthetic. Chungking Express is enchanting, but as the rest of his movies, is a study in melancholy, more intimate and low scale, and heavily relies on atmosphere, poetic imagery and raw emotion. Traditional narrative is not one of

These episodes of Cucumber and Banana were just ridiculously good. I was terrified and in awe at the same time at the end of Cucumber, it was the most agonizing character death I've ever seen, no exaggeration. That title card device just made it all the more horrific, its use avoiding the death at the end to play only

I don't care which cock I'm holding, I just want to know how it got there is as classy and funny a crude joke can be. My favourite line in season 2 and Lucy Liu is the best with her very dry deliveries.

First thing I saw him in and my favourite to this day is The History Boys. I love that movie. He was hilarious in Doctor Who also.

It was a surprise for me that first appearance so imagine the audible gasp I let out. There was an ''Oh, fuck, yes'' in there too, and I hadn't even seen Star Trek. But everyone knows and loves Spock.

Add Phillip Seymour Hoffman to that list. So out of nowhere and it still hurts thinking what much more he could have done.

Man, I'm so jealous of you guys with your stupid, childish fucking pun threads. I can never think of a good one.

This man's handsomeness should not be obscured by white paint and kilos of eyeliner. And the movie will be a shitfest and he deserves better.

Now is not the time to be a big baby.
