Your friend hasn't seen many bad movies then. If not taken seriously at all, Lucy is quite fun. It's dumb fun, executed with style, and with no airs of being anything but. Which is more that I can say for a lot of Hollywood movies.

I agree that some criticism was way too extreme, not every female character has to be read primarily through the lens of social justice goggles (I say that as a feminist), and it is really great that the villain is a psychopathic woman for a change. Also, yeah, the movie is not in any way high art, and people

I haven't read it, but I should check it out. And I hope Carrie Coon won't get trapped by The Leftovers. She's the new Jessica Chastain for me, by far the best discovery this year in acting.

You really should watch it! I can't recommend it enough. It's an atmospheric movie, with not much of a plot, but with gorgeous cinematography and sound design. A simple, elegant movie and a joy to watch.

The Scent of Green Papaya I must say it is the most peaceful, most rejuvenating film I've ever seen. I think I've watched it 5 times already and every time I feel so serene and light, it is like some kind of religious revelatory experience.

As I mentioned before, I have the most gigantic girl-crush on Lucy Liu, but this show was the first time I realized what a very good actress she actually is. She has the talent and everything else she needs to be on the A list, to do a lot more bigger roles. Now, I don't know if it was her choice to keep her career in

You're not. Read the comments.

Les Amours Imaginaires is practically In the Mood for Love mixed with a bit of The Dreamers.

This movie sounds so sad. What is happening lately with all of these big budget Bible movies? Have they run so badly out of ideas in Hollywood, that they resort to Christian mythology? Are they trying to find absolution?

So I guess this comment section will get shut down soon, seeing that it is starting to look a lot like the one that got Sonia Saraiya to leave. Stop with the ad hominem attacks people, the reviewer just has a different opinion than you do, so what? You're free to post your thought-out position without insulting her.

Yeah that's definitely true, it's weird how much passion this show brings out in a lot of people. I like it because it's really pretty to look at, with a great dissonant soundtrack and quite fun if not taken seriously, but it cannot hold a candle to Boardwalk Empire. They are similar in so far as they're both period

There's not even a question. It is your duty as a film lover to go. And think of all of us that cannot experience the magnificence.

Finally I watched Only Lovers Left Alive. I'm not particularly a fan of Jim Jarmusch, but this is clearly his most accessible movie and it is just marvelous. I could have easily spent another hour watching Tom Hiddleston and Tilda Swinton being awesome sloths. The soundtrack is amazing and if there's one thing I must

Bronson is truly amazing cinema to me, Refn became one of my favorite filmmakers with this movie. Unpopular opinion, but I think Only God Forgives is a really good film, it deconstructs the hyper-masculine, macho culture in film using its own devices, all that violence is so in your face because he wants to confront

I was disappointed too with season 2, mainly because they did not improve the plot and the character development, but not as much as you though, probably because I lowered my expectations so much after the first episode and I allowed myself to enjoy it for what it was. Still, and I cannot believe I'm saying this, Tom

This guy is the British Jason Ackles. The similarity is so eerie, you'd think they're brothers.

I'm sorry to disappoint all of you folks with such vivid imaginations, but Chuck Norris vs. Communism is a Romanian documentary about illegal VHS tapes of foreign movies that circulated in communist Romania and gave people a taste of the freedom of the West and introduced them to the magnificence of Arnold

The alcoholic part was a joke, you know. If assisted suicide is done with the prior consent of the person afflicted with the disease when their sanity was proven to be still intact, I have no problem with it. Morally speaking, I think it is the right of every human being with insurmountable health issues to be allowed

I dislike intensely movies about people in their mid 20s to early 30s figuring out their lives and finding success and all that stuff. All these movies seem so fake and try too hard to be identified with and to establish an unearned emotional connection with the viewer. Or maybe I can't enjoy them because I'm in that
