Am…am I meant to care?

As I mentioned on the Pop Culture thread, I'm reading Moby Dick. I'm a big fan of Melville and I'm thoroughly enjoying this wonderful novel. The biblically-inpsired prose is right up my alley and it's also full of wit and humour and beauty.

I couldn't give an aching shit if they're inspiring or not. I just want the show to be good. I don't watch TV to find inspiration in my personal life.

- Started watching HBO's Rome. Only through the first couple of episodes so far, but quite enjoying it. I can already tell it probably isn't going to be a stone cold classic like The Sopranos or Deadwood, but it still feels pretty good, despite a feeling of being a little too 'modern' in tone.

Nope. Psycho is definitely essential.

Wonderful film. The image of him on the swing is one of my very favourite film images and scenes.

A big fucking sigh. Where do I start?

Nah, I just like good comedies is all.

Eh, I don't really know what else I can say.

I'm going to assume you're hearing from overly anti-Abbott Australians no doubt. In a world context, we have a moderate political system (asylum seeker issue not so much, but that applies to both major parties) , without too many loons. The Liberal party is centre-right. They aren't far-right, they aren't extreme,

Lol. What a silly thing to say. They aren't really like the current Republican party, and they are definitely not like the Tea Party at all. They wouldn't be too far from the Democrats to be honest. They're centre-right (in australian terms), which is pretty fucking tame in an American context.

Way to miss the point, jackass. Obviously it's an unfair comparison, which is why I said a proclamation like his, that stated the last 4 years of tv is already better than that entire decade is silly. I was working within his comparison, the one he created, whereas I personally happen to agree with you, the whole

God, no. Absolutely not. 2000-2009 absolutely blows this decade out of the water. Admittedly, it's only been a few years, but that really indicates that such a proclamation like 'this is the best decade for TV' is both premature and silly.

Jesus, Todd, your writing really can be a pain in the ass to read. The 'yet she does good' just reeked of over self-conscious first year creative writing nonsense.

Is this movie actually funny?

Do you also wish that it was written that this 'fearless woman' was also a disgusting tyrant who committed awful deeds?

"The first film by British director Steve McQueen, Hunger, was difficult to pin down: Was it art, or merely the imitation of it?"

Yuck, just yuck.

He should try making a half-decent movie this time.

- The Collected Poetry of the Italian great Eugenio Montale (trans. Arrowsmith). Great stuff, really good range of tones and styles and abilities.
