Ooooh you're right, I forgot about that scene because it's just so painful to watch. I don't think there's an actress alive who does facial expressions better than Watts. I could watch a whole film of just her reacting to things (which is basically what I do when I watch King Kong and ignore all the silly bits that…
Yeah the audition scene alone should have at least gotten her a nomination.
I'd vote for Naomi Watts for Best Actress, since NO ONE is going to talk about her nomination at all leading up to the telecast and it would be a huge upset. Also because I like Naomi Watts and think she deserves an Oscar way more than most of the actresses who already have one.
God that train sequence was beautiful. It's always the first image that pops into my head whenever someone mentions that film.
Yeah that seems most likely, although I could envision a scenario where Lincoln takes it too, even though the cinematography in that film was pretty forgettable.
This could be interesting, since most of his movies seem to lack much of anything resembling romance or comedy. The guy is very serious, which is why people like him I think. Deviating from his formula could prove to be disasterous, but it'd be a nice change of pace.
So since The Master didn't get a cinematography nomination, does this mean Roger Deakins will FINALLY get an Oscar?
Even though she has absolutely no chance of winning, I personally was happy to see Naomi Watts finally get another best actress nom for The Impossible (her first since 21 Grams I think), only because she seems to always slip in just under the radar despite being solid to stellar in everything she comes in.
Although—to be fair—if the Dancing Itos had been on Conan instead of Leno I probably would have thought that they were hilariously irreverent instead of embarrassingly misguided. Hmm…INTERESTING
Ha, I'm older than you are! Arrested's original run just feels like it was forever ago I guess. I mean the last episode aired what, seven years ago? That's kind of a long time. Even Futurama wasn't off the air that long!
Honestly though, was it ever really going to be the same Arrested Development that we all grew up with? It seems to me that doing the show in this new format will make it harder to compare the new episodes to the original ones, which is probably how Mitch and co would prefer it.
This is a very accurate description of internet-based commentary. I've watched several shows years after the initial backlash and counter-backlash cycles had ended/devolved into ad hominem attacks, and I basically went into them with an open mind because I was no longer sure what the prevailing opinion was. The…

I thought the bit at the beginning where he's interacting with the troops and that kid from Chronicle starts quoting the Gettysburg Address and the black soldier finishes it for him was the schmaltzy-est part of the whole movie, and as such would have fit in better at the end when you wanted something schmaltzy and…

Wait…if he's the worst actor of the modern era, wouldn't you want him to be wasted?
