Lol. *Kansan. Should have bothered to look it up. Though I wonder if any real Kansans hate The Wizard of Oz just for all the "not in Kansas anymore" comments.

I always liked that about Glinda. Powerful enough to not bother about anything but sitting and chilling in her library (I was a bookworm). Arguably it made her the best benevolent dictator out of the lot, unlike Ozma who was always getting into trouble trying to intervene somewhere. (Also, shallow, but Glinda should

That was at the end of the second one, "Marvelous Land of Oz"*. "Marvelous Land" is amazing to think in terms of gender study, what with the false-feminists (Gingur!) vs. the real feminists (Glinda & army) and the inanimate life-giving power and such.

I grew up on the books, so I will probably watch this no matter how shitty it looks. This trailer seems okay, but it really stretches the believability to have people saying stuff like "are you the man we've been waiting for". Come on now, in Oz it's always a female who saves the day, be she a disaster-inducing

I watch PBS! It's all even-handed and I even got a brief 40-second thrill when they mentioned Asian-Americans. Yes, my minority exists! I mean, they didn't have any real numbers because no one has apparently ever bothered to study why Asians vote Democratic so much, but there you go, 40 seconds of acknowledgment on

No Hong Kong films yet? Suppose Chungking Express at least will show up as a token choice (no hope for the double-header not being Quentin Tarentino?)… If it were Wong Kar Wai, I'm not sure what the 2nd film would be. Personally, I love Days of Being Wild equally, but I don't hear it discussed much, so it seems highly

Toy Story isn't even anybody's favorite Toy Story movie, though. I suppose it's a landmark.

Yeah, this list has been awfully staid so far. I know that's what tends to happen in consensus-type lists, but still I figured the consensus among the AVclub film pool would be less … expected? I'm still holding out for something gonzo like Green Snake to pop up randomly in the top ten though.

Unfaithfully Yours (1948): Kind of even more queasily cynical than Preston Sturges' usual as he goes for psychological examination instead of straight satire. Interestingly experimental with the sound design and the intense dream sequences, though it doesn't quite come together, as the wife is a bit of a nonentity.

My list; must watch:
The Avengers (it's been hell avoiding spoilers)
Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (every British actor of a certain age, how can I not)
Brave
Kiseki (I Wish)

Well, maybe we can pretend the "six more cases" are from the last half hour, and that there were 5 more cases in the half hour before that, making 11 new cases in the last hour? Meaning there were 34 cases originally, and that Fred is rounding to the first decimal percentage.

Great answer. Fucking Thomas indeed. Like in the Christmas episode where he tries to hide the dog. It's how you know all is right in the world, that Thomas is still around doing petty evil. (I suppose it helps that he always fails at his petty evil, for the most part.)
