@avclub-29501df08e5d9ae59e432e4f188d3735:disqus I think some of those are easy fixes. Re-shoot part of the trial from "Fairpoint", run that before the opening credit sequence, and start the movie proper with "8 years later" on the screen. Surely that would give the casual audience enough context?
I think one reason All Good Things wouldn't have worked in place of Generations is that I don't see it setting up a franchise of films. Parts of it worked SO well because it was closing the book. Do they still resonant if that's not the case?
The opening bit where you actually see Stefon go to one of his clubs will also be funny.
Actually I kind lean towards it being dull as well, but damn if that thing (along with a good chunk of the soundtrack) doesn't get stuck in your head.
If you want a good Belle song, you've got to watch the extended version of Muppet Christmas Carol. "The Love is Gone" is one of the all-time catchy, yet depressing as hell songs.
