It also makes me wonder why they need to amputate the leg as well. If they're already infected, is there really a danger to getting bitten or scratched?  And unless the danger is the infected flesh spreading i.e. a rash, amputating won't serve a purpose since there was sufficient time for it to spread from the bite if…

Oh I agree, this episode was terrible.  All of the unfunny cameos just ground this episode to a halt everytime one of them showed up.  This episode was unable to gain any momentum and suffered for it.
