Funny, but the bands you recommend not to experience first—Tortoise, Don Caballero—are the ones I often tell folks to start with. Perhaps it has to do with some of the ones you do recommend I find are not really part of the subgenre (Sigur Ros, Sea and Cake), while others bore the hell out of me. (I'm looking at you

"Hubert sees Smith as a rapper who decided to act instead of, say, a two-time Academy Award nominee who commands $20 million a film."

Crazy From the Heat has one big redeeming virtue, yet it was overlooked by Rabin completely: in it Roth explains the clever reason behind the often ridiculed brown M&Ms section in VH's rider. Alas…

"I always resented Farley for epitomizing the shift in attitude from the halcyon Carvey/Myers/Hartman/Lovitz era to the adolescent monkeyshines of the Farley/Spade/Sandler epoch."

Sad to see my fave "Superman" was not included: Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians' from Queen Elvis [A&M-1989].

Supposedly Mars is on board. And it's been 22 years for him; maybe's he's up for it. But if he's not, it'll likely be Josh Freese or the Soul Asylum guy.

Make it Westerberg, Stinson, Mars and some Minneapolis gtr player; a local hero type, or a legend (Bob Mould?) and that quartet would be fine. Otherwise, call it Westerberg Stinson Overdrive.

"We think we signed up for a fun, sexy show about a bunch of crazy kids putting on a production. Instead Professor Sorkin favors us with an endless dissertation on Satire As Social Protest In The United States In the Cold War Era."

I am probably the only person on Earth who likes Weezer yet is incredibly underwhelmed by Pinkerton. Hmm…

Um, EW&F's "Got to Get You into My Life"?

"Imagine" is shite, Ian. Whether Frank Turner can write something better is for you and he to fight over. Meanwhile…yeah, sucks.

Not half as good as EW&F's "Got to Get You into My Life". Not even close.

I'd rather listen to "Mambo No.5" on a loop than 10 seconds of any Fall Out Boy nonsense.

Didn't know he'd left NYC that long ago. Also, The Cure w/ The Pixies and Joan Jett opening, played Giants Stadium in '89, so The Cure were THAT big here in NYC.

Tower USA (MTS Inc.) went under but the stores in Ireland and Japan are still standing.

She lost me when she used the terms "markets and monetizes". Actually, she never had me at all. Carry on.

Honestly, how is this any different from established Hollywood types asking for funding? (Not being facetious here.) Maybe it's just me but I'm as turned off by Eisley wanting to be funded as if their fans are a substitute major label-type piggy bank, as I am with connected Hollywood folks like Zach Braff or Melissa

Not having enough money to make records and tour is God's way of telling you your band sucks to get more fans.

Wasn't Wayne's World originally a 10-1 skit?
