As much as I fancied Marie (Ponte) in those movies, killing her off early in the second film was a great shock and helped the movie a lot. It was unexpected (never seen the trailer, so maybe it was given away) too. No lingering goodbye, tearful embrace. BANG. Dead.

'Tis a great podcast. Really enjoyed the 'Commander' episode. A song I probably would not have found/tried out otherwise too. The drum story is amazing.

I had fun watching most of The Equalizer. But the ship explosion bit (especially the 'too cool to look' at explosion bit) and the DIY setpiece took a lot of fun points away.

To be fair, what the fuck were you thinking watching Olympus Has Fallen? I feel like the two minute trailer I had to sit through twice in the cinema was a few mins off the time I need to spend in Hell in the afterlife.

Yup, build up/lack of tension in final fight was odd. I was waiting for edgy press conferences, newspaper hype, tabloids shit, etc for that final fight. Nothing. And as you said, nothing really would have changed had he lost.
