Trying to make sense out of paradox, the way I see it, Cole's existence ended in 2015 Chechnya, so any further appearances must be Cole from an alternate timeline, for if there had been any other jumps into the past, the doomed Cole should have remembered them.
Don't compare "Defiance" to "Stargate" (SG-1, Atlantis, SGU)—-"Defiance" is silly stuff, with no attempt to make the science coherent; whereas the Stargate franchise stayed consistent within its own rules, and was informed by actual scientific theories.
