I agree, it would fit nicely with the original EQ's motivation from the story where she wanted Snow White dead because a MIRROR told her SW was prettier than her. 

So true. I read that book some time ago and in the intervening years have talked to many people who felt the same way about the last part of the book. It's a fascinating concept and the political climate of Oz with animals versus Animals is compelling… and then, it just sort of peters out at the end.
