I respect what they were going for with anticlimax but I'm not sure it worked. You need to be a better show to do that. However, if the Governor doesn't come back I'd have some more respect for the show. Just leave him out there, being crazy on his own until a zombie kills him or his other two guys kill him.

I love that the Great Intelligence is an ongoing villain. It's enough of a unique idea and it has an intriguing name that new fans will have their interest piqued while fans of the old show are being rewarded. Perfect job in that respect.

He does sound pretty nonchalant, like he's just placing a food order.

They've done a great job characterizing Tim this season.

As horrible as Colt is, that last scene between him and Tim was incredibly sad. Two men deeply affected by being involved in warfare are brought together by more violence.

I'm okay with an oedipal complex but I don't think they should actually have sex.

Well the incest comes from the Psycho backstory so for it not to be in there would be complained about, too.

One note on your review. I don't think Farmiga *has* to do TV. I think TV is actually very appealing to actors now in a way that it wasn't ten years ago as there's more types of projects to choose from other than cop/lawyer/doctor show, y'know?

When Rick asked Merle if he knows why he does what he does and Merle says he has no idea why he behaves the way he does, I wasn't the only one who figured that was the writers giving up, right?

IIRC, he claimed the Brits and New Zealand turned them away in the film which is a dick thing to put in as there's no point to it. A Congressional statement is overkill but Affleck's American-centric version of the events is definitely one I can understand other countries taking issue with.

I rewatched Brotherhood about two years ago and it's just as good on rewatch. Such a smart and well acted show.

It's amazing how much good stuff this guy wrote for. He's one of my favorite television writers and if he's affiliated with a show it's pretty much a guarantee of quality. His work on the very underrated Brotherhood was phenomenal.

Exactly. The show's handling of the Governor is awful. I've never read the comics so perhaps fans would complain if he was less crazy and more just cold but I think that'd work better. Or just make him an out and out looney tunes psycho that's at least enjoyable to watch a la the Joker.

Wow. That's… that's not good.

See now I thought that was really awful. The entire episode seemed like a waste of time and repeating beats we've seen play out episode after episode. The character of the Governor has gone from not being believable to just being laughable. The whistling? WTF?

Refa was one of my favorite minor characters. His accent is so over the top that I came to love it. It's like he'd stretch out each word yet it somehow worked. I'd watch a whole show about him going around and being smug to people while planning their inevitable murder.

It saddens me that Ray Wise isn't more famous. Hollywood doesn't typically reward characters actors like him and every time I see a performance by Wise I'm reminded of how fucked up that position is. Twin Peaks would not be as eerie without his performance as a griever and as a monster. Good Night and Good Luck would

I agree. While judging your characters too harshly can be problematic at times, going, "Well, it's up to the audience!" can be a lazy cop-out, too.

The Shield should be a manipulative bullshit show. If you describe it to someone, you'll realize it has all the warning signs of a uber-masculine show where the cops are bad sometimes but, hey, they get things done so what are you going to do? It's pretty much 24 but with the police.

This makes me find Carly Rae Jepsen even more endearing which I didn't think was possible.
