Intelligence was never Amy's strong suit so I like that Clara seems to be smart. Old Who always worked well with smart companions and we haven't had much of that in New Who.

I'm pretty sure I do. The original script would be about what you expected but I don't think anyone expected the ideas/themes of Prometheus. Most people, it seemed, expected a straightforward Alien prequel and that did not happen- I can't think of any other prequel that did that.
