"I think if you'd gotten a trans actress in there it would've been fine. That's what the controversy's about, after all, that cis guys shouldn't play trans ladies."

I need to read that asap.
It's really weird, but my wife and I had been on a huge ABB kick for the last six weeks or so, and I mentioned to her last week how it'd be nice to Dickey and Gregg come to some kind of peace with each other. Gregg's health problems were pretty well documented, and just like with Jerry

okay, bruh. Not the hill I'm gonna die on.

Dammit Satan!! You get to have all the fun!

There are a lot of connections between them and the Grateful Dead, but to me the most obvious is the "Rosetta Stone" nature of both bands.
As a young person who was a fan of both, they gave me not just the music they made themselves, but a wealth of music from their influences, most of whom I wouldn't have sought out

Come on now. Hippies stink, but weed smells fucking great!! Especially when it's yours!!
I saw 'em that year also, in Richmond, VA. Crowd was a pleasant mix of hippies, bikers, and rednecks. No hassle, everyone was there for one thing, and one thing only: the Band.
Now that I've typed that, I realize that experience

Yes! The gospel tinged cover of "Rain" is gorgeous, I'd forgotten about that one!
"Rush" holds up pretty good. I watched it a couple months ago. The opening tracking shot of him walking through his nightclub glowering at everybody, establishes him as a Badass without him ever speaking a line.

That's fascinating. I always used to think "damn, those things must be a BITCH to move around and pack up". Roadie work is hard as fuck. Can't imagine WTF it must have been like to haul the Wall Of Sound around.
Melvin Seals is an awesome organ player, though. I like the story about the first time he tried out for

"Laid Back" is a beautiful album. So melancholy.
The solo version of "Come And Go Blues" stands out for me. I think it's off the album "Playin' Up A Storm"?
And a shoutout for his role in the movie "Rush" also. He could drip menace & danger just by walking across the room. I don't think he had more than four

The Dead & ABB are my two favorite bands, and of course, who doesn't like the Beatles?
I'm with you on Tedeschi Trucks though. Just incredible. "Midnight In Harlem" will Never not put me in a good mood.
I'll just repeat a quote from Gregg when asked if he believed in reincarnation: "I share the stage with Derek Trucks

And Duane, Berry, and Butch are sitting on the front porch.

He was THE great 'white' blues singer. Nobody, not Clapton, not Stevie Ray, not Winwood, could sing the soul and swagger that Gregg did. He could be soft, or totally menacing. Huge fucking loss.

You always gotta keep one more silver dollar…

Beautiful. Doing the same thing. I'd like to think Gregg would approve.

Shit sucks, don't it Jesus? I'm beginning to think you might be slippin' a bit. Alien Beelzebub seems like he's been getting by you a bit. Last two years, anyway :)

Hell and back is right.
So much tragic shit in their history, up to and including the movie being made about Gregg's life. But goddamn, they were resilient.
Death kept swingin' the scythe, but they were like "nope".

Blue Sky has the most beautiful tandem guitar solo ever recorded.
This sucks.

I was only lucky enough to see ABB three times.
Once in, I think, 91 (where they toured with Little Feat), 93 which was transcendent, and 96. They were all the Betts/Haynes lineup, but fuckin' shit did they jam.
I really regret never seeing the Haynes/Trucks lineup.

Goddammit.
This one hits hard. Such a killer, bluesy voice and wonderful songwriter. And the talent that went through that band. Duane Allman, Dickey Betts, Warren Haynes, and Derek Trucks is a fucking murderers row of world class guitarists.
Your music has been the best medicine for me at some of the lowest points

Seeing it in the theater the first week it opened with my uncle. I was blown away completely. Six years old.
