I know it's not exactly AV Club music, but Dwight Yoakam's "3 Pears" was probably the best thing I've heard all year.  Impressive to see an artist 30 years into his career putting out such quality work.

Totally agree.  I'm very excited about the Big Star documentary that is starting to play at film festivals and will be coming out next year ("Big Star:  Nothing Can Hurt Me").  I had the opportunity to see a screening, and it's everything that you could hope for.
