I thought a more glaring example was Bart's love of Michael Jackson. It was an early episode so it can be forgiven, I 'spose.

I always thought this ending reached a little too far. The show was basically a family/household comedy; an explosive terrorist attack outside the Bunker home doesn't really fit the play-like nature of every other episode.
