"The L Word". Good god, that shit was terrible. It was ten or eleven horrible ideas put together in the stupidest way possible. And once or twice a season, it was brilliant. By accidental alignment. When it was on, it was trippy and gorgeous, and moved through plot like crazy.

The casting, the amplified love story - I can roll with that stuff. Different mediums, different stories and all that. But: the book was (with exceptions!) so careful about landing the big ideas - they were all there, but subtle, delicate. The film puts it in the tagline, so I'm apprehensive.

I quite enjoyed Old Man's War (and the increasingly affecting sequels.) It's well-executed sci-fi beach fare. That was all I needed it to be.
