I would have described S1 like the article does, but we just did a re-watch last month - it holds up way better than I remembered. Tight plots, solid characters.

The ending doesn't work: perhaps it could have, and if it works for you that's awesome. And yeah, if the kill was from out of nowhere that might have sharpened it up.

Yeah, that sentiment of "you shouldn't be forced to put your desires on display" was an unexpected one, and I like that about this episode; it's standard, but with some interesting points.
