Gotta disagree- for me, something about the chipmunk is cheesy but brash and fun, and fits the song. Watching it live, during that section Ellie's pounding away at a drum and it looks like she's just having a blast.

Yeah, torrenting really broke the connection between paying for something and paying attention to something that used to be used to monitor popularity. Compared to torrents, I would think Spotify and Pandora helps bands at least be able to measure how many people were listening to their work. Obviously everyone can determine whether that's a piddling small benefit not worth the hassle, but it's still a metric they don't have if everyone's off swapping on Usenet or
