They did, though, use the conceit perfectly in Steve Carell's final episode - when he un-mic'd himself to say an unheard goodbye to Pam. Nothing needed to be done after that point
In retrospect, I'm happy that Parks never made a self-referencing joke at the "documentary crew" that had been supposedly filming them for years (the Office really leaned into this towards the end). I was expecting at least a wink during the finale, but I'm glad it never came

I've said this of the show before - but I've never seen a series (especially an animated one) so sure of itself and aware of what it wants to be from episode 1. The way the hint at the lore in very organic and subtle ways is really masterful. They keep things intriguing without dangling mysteries over the viewers'…
