LOL!!
Oh, my god—so glad you said that. I think the same thing every time I see the episodes. There's that 3 shot where you have D'Argo, Jothee and Aeryn and she goes from happy to utter dread, as you put it, then the look on her face in the third episode where she tells D'Argo how he misjudged Crichton.
LOL—I said that to someone and they about took my head off!
Natira was awesome and not visibly dead! That always bodes well for a character in a sci fi show.
These three (or four, once you factor in Die, Me Dichotomy) are probably my favorites—Action, romance, aliens, star crossed lovers, character backstory…it all seems to be there.
One of the things I've read about The Way We Weren't is that it was initially conceived as a season 1 episode. While I don't always credit Farscape's writers for having a plan, I do believe that the events here aren't haphazard retconning.
Really looking forward to your analysis of the next two episodes—as mediocre as Stone and Vitas Mortis are, the next two are stellar.
I don't see it as a great way to introduce a newbie because you kind of need a good grip on who the characters are to understand how different they are in this episode…or rather, what their better selves look like before the crackers part.
I love the dynamic between John and Aeryn—"Lately, do I seem a little crazy to you?" with the response of "What do you mean lately?"
Alas, most of Claudia's post Farscape/Stargate stuff is voice work. Nothing wrong with that, except that her fans miss seeing her on television. She's had the occasional guest spot (Haven, NCIS, 90210) but not much else TV/movie-wise.
I always thought Ben and Claudia could have done "Castle".
I always figured he was just sitting there waiting for Aeryn to wake up…or not…so romantic!
LOL about the accent. Poor guy will never live that one down.
Exactly! You could blame the rest of the series on Chiana and Rygel's greed, which is just a basic part of their natures and nothing that's introduced deus ex machina-like.
I would argue Aeryn's attraction to Larraq is also based on his extreme HOTNESS.
One thing we didn't really discuss was the good-bye with Aeryn. Claudia plays Aeryn as simultaneously swallowing back her emotion while letting us see exactly what is twisting in her gut.
Kemper, O'Bannon and Richard Manning are all American. Justin Monjo, who comes in mid season 1, is Aussie and I believe most of the other season 1 writers are Aussie as well. Monjo wrote some of my favorite eps, and seems to have a real handle on Aeryn's character in particular (wait till season 3's The Choice)
That is exactly what makes Farscape one of my favorites. Battlestar Galactica is a well written, well done show but it has an appalling lack of humor . By the end of it, there's really no one left to root for.
