Actually some folks think that Electro was introduced in a subtle cameo in the mid-credits scene in The Amazing Spiderman, when Curt Connors was visited by the mystery man in his prison cell  They connect the fact that there was a lightening clap right before the man disappeared with him being Electro.

I think Office Space could be on the main list, but it fits nicely here too; with the Y2K plot point it places itself as a late-nineties period piece at least.

Yea, it requires a bit of groundwork on the Cold War and that specific era (what's Sputnik and why was it important?) to fully appreciate it.  I would think that adults from any era would get the dynamics at play but for a kid I think there are a lot of subtle little references and era signifiers that would go over
