Monsters? Getting together to celebrate? Think of how that sounds…it's ridiculous! I mean, if they get together it's going to be a terrifying battle!  They're not going to get along, much less have a bash of some kind…

Totally. They do a silent movie series in Seattle each summer of 4, 5 weeks showing films from a silent movie star (Keaton, Chaplin, Harold Lloyd) with a Wurlitzer organ as accompaniment.

As does Gremlins.

The Adventures of Tintin opened strong internationally, a full two months before it opens in the States.  I'll get to see it here in Saigon the week after next.

@avclub-e53fc2424af041d07a7eef5cd8773505:disqus , after reading your other posts on this article I'll agree with you on the eating disorder interpretation and that Shutter Island is good but I have to distance myself from your other opinions on Drag Me To Hell, George Romero and when it's best to use the Holocaust to

@avclub-e53fc2424af041d07a7eef5cd8773505:disqus , I am all about DMTH being about Christine's eating disorder.

Anyone interested should watch the documentary Sonicsgate online.  It's played some festivals and some theaters in Seattle but I don't think that it can get a legit release without the approval of the NBA, which it won't get (spoiler: it criticizes David Stern) but it can play online for educational purposes.  You can

I think it's before the expiration date…oh wait, now I'm dead.

I only knew Waits by reputation and hearing bits off of Closing Time, but while I was in high school I went right out and got Mule Variations and Rain Dogs after I saw this on TV:

Urban legend holds that those are Elvira's tits on the cover of Small Change.

Jealousy achieved.  Happy Boognish Ween!

When You're Reminded of Great Songs in Surprising Places

I can dig it.

Ahh….well then, I agree with you!

That's not a bad point @avclub-8960b60364cfbb5ea071c2507704fb2a:disqus . Not to be an apologist, but I feel like a lot of the misogynistic bits are there on "purpose" - rampant misogyny is as much a part of blaxploitation movies as crazy big hats are.  I think that in Black Dynamite it's played for contrast that our
