OK that actually makes some sense. So, I guess, a "C" episode of Black-ish only means it's considered a C by Black-ish standards. And an "A" episode of a random show is not necessarily going to be submitted to the Hall of Fame. Helps make sense out of some of the grades I've seen AV Club give other shows.

Maybe it just speaks to my high opinion of this show, but I can see Dre's genealogy (as a character) going all the way back to George Jefferson and Archie Bunker, all three waving an impotent fist at the world around them. God bless him and his show, because it was great, but Dr Huxtable's world was somewhat

In my opinion, Black-ish has some pretty fresh takes, both in its central premise and throughout individual episodes, that have not been done before. Certainly not explored to this degree, and not this well, while still

One thing you can say about the Wachowskis is that they always go for broke.

Did she assume you knew, or did she ask you if you knew?

Her facial expressions are a highlight of the show.

It's not as if the show is titled "Black People". It's called "Black-ish" for a reason. It best describes the particular angle the show is taking in introducing an affluent Black family, and the father's struggle with seeing his children raised in a more assimilated culture than the one he grew up in. It's a fairly
