Wow, I couldn't have predicted this sequence of events either. They really steered a hard-left from the expectations set up in the previous episode. It's appreciated when a show leaves me clamoring for the next season without resorting to cheap cliff-hangers. (I'm looking at you, Lost!)

And yes, the space cowboy bit did make me feel very good about myself. I typically watch this on Hulu, so I thankfully missed the network teasers.
