If you're still game, skip around. The nice thing about Pratchett is the different subseries within Discworld—if the Witches don't do it for you, try the Watch (Guards! Guards! is their starting point), and the next Death book, Reaper Man, is one of the greats.
I find the movie charming rather than objectively "good," and think it succeeds most as a solid adaptation of an excellent book.
