Maybe it will be! But honestly, I can't see any good coming of cramming Constantine into a superhero universe. What makes the character fun are his dark, nasty edges, and somehow I can't see the DC/WB/AOL conglomerate signing off on a mainstream character doing things like selling his friends to the devil or blatantly

Ever see the interpretation of that final arc as Constantine v. Batman? I saw it on some blog or other a couple years ago, and it's been my favorite way to read the story. The bad guy is called S(tately)W(ayne) Manor and he kills kids named Tim and Jason, I can't not see it as intentional.

I'd read it.

I'd read it.

To me, that's the really unfortunate part; Hellblazer is easily the most consistently good title on the stands, and outside of the year or so Denise Mina was on the title, it was an assured piece of quality writing almost every time. That run of quality is unprecedented in mainstream, multi-writer comics, and losing

Fuck.

Fuck.

Yeah, those early Hellblazer arcs are pretty much the best example of Vertigo house style. Part of why I never got into the Delano run is that scratchy artwork, and even stuff like the Ennis run starts off with artwork that, while not bad, is definitely competent at best.

Are you talking Cloud Atlas or Battle Royale? Because I'd love some encouragement on Atlas; I made it about halfway throught the second part (with the musician) and stalled right the hell out. I barely made it through the island portion; I'm hoping desperately to make it to the engaging part.

Did Morrison's switch to Vertigo partway through? Or did it stay "Dark DC" or whatever until Pollack?

@avclub-6997a8bd0e1042b70b60c5c879a1780e:disqus Yeah, those are the ones! I'm not positive, but I think that Alan Moore's run was actually in a title called Saga of the Swamp Thing. I know it was an old-school relaunch that he took over, same as Morrison's Doom Patrol (which you should absolutely read if you haven't).

Y'know, I liked Lucifer when I was reading it, but upon finishing, it just felt really…light? I didn't see a lot of  depth or thematic work throughout the series. It was a really fun adventure with some good character work, but when compared with Sandman or the Carey/Gross Unwritten, it just didn't match up. I feel
