How great was that "pretty and a good writer" line? In any other show, that would have come off as nothing but arrogance, but watching Hannah/Lena beat herself down all season long made it extremely cathartic.

I'm still processing that ending, myself. It felt very real and honest, but I'm not sure how exactly to discuss it. I think it's meant to talk about how necessary the setting of the city is to the whole show, but I'm not definite on that.

Yeah, I don't disagree. I think it's because Dunham didn't plan on making her a full-timer, but more like Ray or the gay ex. Which isn't an excuse, but is a reason why she feels tossed-off at times.

Looks like there were reviews last year. Don't know what happened.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that every character on Buffy got to be the outsider at some point. Spike in s4, Giles pretty much constantly, Willow… can't think of a Willow example right now, but I'm sure there's one.

Yeah, for some reason, Rory's evolution into badass has come off a lot better than Mickey's. And I feel like he had more of a reason for joining up with the adventure (and I like that the Doctor wanted him along, rather than seeming vaguely annoyed by him).

I read it as her being pissed that Jessa's getting this stuff she wants with no effort, just like she (seemingly) does everything. Meanwhile, Shoshanna wants love and a relationship so, so badly, and can't figure out how to get it. So she's pissed that she can't be like Jessa.

The Jessa stuff didn't really click for me until reading Todd's review; it's a girl who doesn't quire know how to be an adult taking what most people see as the next necessary step into adulthood, despite not being at all prepared for it, because "that's what people do." This could have come across a little better in…

@avclub-d783823cc6284b929c2cd8df2167d212:disqus I don't mind spirituality, but from what I recall, this just came so far out of left field that it bothered me. Spiritual themes get handled a lot better in the s2 finale.

S2 really takes a leap up in quality over S1. I think Jet was what sold me on the show originally, because it had a decent level of ambiguity that you don't see in most kid's cartoons. S2 ramped up the ambiguity, and added in multi-episode arcs and some strong new characters. The character development is also…
