@PaulKinsey:disqus Oh no, I agree with you! I'm just saying to a certain subset of guys, one that often crosses over with the gamer set, women are seen as a weird, treatening organism that must be solved like a series of puzzles. It's weird and wrong, but it's an extant attitude.

@avclub-bc1744b6ddecde924eb7faa4211beaec:disqus Those are some really good observations. I think that perhaps Apt. 23 hasn't really hit a point of serious discussion, as it got snuck onto the schedule towards the end of the season and didn't have a lot of hype beyond vague positivity. I suspect we'll see a lot more

It's not that it humanizes her, it's that it allows them to see them as less of athreat and more of a possibility, since girls that do guy things are inherintley less alien to a certain dude mindset.

@olivececile:disqus Watch it! It really developed into something good after Lizzy Caplan's arc.

No offense or anything, but I'm a guy. Am a feminist, though. Don't have time right now to get into my definition, but I'll try and put something up later.

21-year-old guy, 2nd-favorite new show this year (after Girls). Haven't watched Homeland yet, though.

Aaaaaand that about sums it up.

Hell, isn't that (kinda) what Girls is? It's not as overblown, but a lot of the complaint against it is that the characters are too unlikeable.

Plus it's a lot more obviously satirical, which helps disconnect viewers.
