I love that the Patrick Stewart version includes that scene at Fred's house and gives it proper emotional significance. So many versions ignore it, and my one complaint about the Muppets' Carol, which is otherwise my absolute favorite, is that it breezes past that part and plays Fred's stunned reaction for a joke

Sometimes that does happen, and I did read one or two reviews/articles before seeing it. But I honestly don't know what they led me to expect. I think even if I had just seen the trailer, the idea of Michael Keaton being followed by his bird-like alter ego would have gotten me excited for it. It just didn't turn out

Why thank you :)

I felt the same way. There were parts I enjoyed, but overall I think I hoped for too much from it and it ended up not being quite what I expected. It felt self-satisfied in its commentary on theater/film/social media, and while I know the appearance of the whole movie being a single shot was a feat of technical

Yes. I brought up Whiplash because he gave the definition of sociopath, and in case he had seen it, I was interested in his opinion on the AV Club's characterization of one of that film's characters as a sociopath. Just slightly off-topic from the original post, but I thought it was relevant.

Did you see Whiplash? I ask because this is the third AV Club article referring to Miles Teller's character as a sociopath, which bothers me every time. The teacher could easily be called a sociopath, but the student is a fairly typical teenage boy with an obsessive interest who is susceptible to the idea that

Yeah, I could understand the reasoning behind Coop going off to find Brand, because she was all alone on a new planet and the only person he knew anymore, but they could have handled the pacing much better. Having Murph basically say, "OK, I can die now, don't wait around any longer for me" came out of nowhere.

I am SO happy that didn't happen.

That was my biggest annoyance with the movie, because the scene with McConaughey was so moving, but the plot machinations to get there were so threadbare and obvious. I love a big, cathartic emotional scene, but not when it feels manipulative. You need to feel like it's a tragic inevitability, not a dumb-ass mistake

I thought the role was written specifically for him? I thought I read/heard somewhere that Wes Anderson sent the script to Fiennes without telling him which part he had in mind, because apparently well-known actors tend to want to play a different part from whatever part has been suggested for them. So, without

I am so happy that J.K. Simmons was nominated (for supporting role). I don't expect awards to always go to those who deserve it—and I haven't seen The Judge or Foxcatcher yet—but man, it will seem like such an injustice if he doesn't win every award.

Ahhhh, I really wish they were still doing reviews of Revenge. This season has been so much better than the last two—it almost feels like this is their last season (is it?), so they're finally moving forward on storylines that had stalled due to the soap opera need for secrets to stay secret. But it's so much more

I loved Omar Sy in The Intouchables, so thanks for that recommendation!

"Candy camouflage!"

Re-watched The Secret Life of Walter Mitty last night. I liked it even better the second time. It's an unusual movie—more sentimental than most, but it has a low-key absurdist humor running through it and overall just leaves you feeling good.

"Candy camouflage!" I loved Over The Garden Wall. The music especially was amazing.

Thank you for geeking out with me! :) I'm glad you brought up who Daniel used to be—I always loved naive, idealist Daniel, and though I'm impressed by how well the actor has drawn out his darker side, it would be fun if the show returned to that a bit now that the truth is out, by reminding him of it. Also, while I

I know there are still Revenge fans out there who are thrilled with the direction this season is taking, so I'm going to be that person and paste my review of last night's episode that I posted in the "Tell us about your pop-culture weekend…" thread. Somebody join in geeking out with me!
