and to the idea that not liking his music is somehow an indication of racism..

I never said I felt sorry for him. Any elite athlete in the position he's was in is going to want to compete, and to have your body not hold up like that, right as you're about to start, has to be extremely tough to handle. If the thing you've be consumed with doing, been training for, been expected to do, is suddenly

Yeah, this was heartbreaking. He is made of such strong stuff, and I can't even imagine the amount of pain he must've been in to have had to withdraw. He looked absolutely traumatized. I think he said in the interview that after he landed that practice triple axel that he couldn't feel his legs! Yikes.

The NYT magazine had an article about Shaun White recently that was pretty interesting:

With all due respect, 'African American' is a term that came into use in the period after the American Civil Rights movement of the 50s/60s, and had much to do with taking pride and ownership in one's ancestry. It's possibly that 'whitey' has some sort of liberal guilt thing going on when using the term now, but that

Oh, I know it's there. :) I just meant here at WoT for convenience.

Is someone going to do a '31 Days of Oscar' rundown daily? That should be a thing.

Was just coming to report that here. I'm in shock. How sad. I was fortunate enough to have met him, and he was a nice guy when he didn't really have to be.

Actually, it's Viktoria Azarenka, who shrieks just as loudly on the court but isn't nearly as..um..marketable..

I flew twice during my last trimester. I had heard that I'd need paperwork saying my due date, and that my pregnancy was fine, I was in good health, etc, so I had it ready, but no one officially asked either time. They were more concerned when I brought said newborn on the flight back home-I did have to show his birth

Awesome-I'm stealing 'Kermitflailing', because that is exactly what I did too! (I'll give you credit for it, though)

And my goodness did Damon Harriman act the hell out of his scenes this episode. That look on his face when he's looking at Wade while getting carted away on that ATV. I felt awful for both of them, and it was a strange thing.

Why would anyone take 'notes' from the fiasco of 'Accidental Racist'? That atrocity of a song (and its problems, which Mr. Meth has spelled out in characteristic clarity below) was from an album that came out on 4/13- 'The Heist' was out on 10/12.

That is a great quote. :) I knew you weren't being flippant.

As a high school theater kid (and as a kid who volunteered at a hospice and saw lots of the ravages of terminal illness), I felt as though I needed 'Rent'. Deep down I knew a lot of what it portrayed was bullshit, but my romantic, naive teenage fascination with being an 'artist living in NYC' was propped up by singing

ITA. What else could he have possibly done? It's not his fault the Grammy voters are idiots.

Wait, how is that an insecure reaction? No performer wants to be cut off mid-song. It'd be different if they'd told him 'hey, if we run long this might happen', but it sounds like they didn't, and that sucks, and he should be pissed, and I imagine just about anyone would be.

In other words..pimpin' ain't easy.

My best friend in high school (the one with the record store clerk/musician for an older brother) took it upon himself to make a carefully selected series of mix tapes, but he was too lazy to label them, so I'd just listen to them over and over without really knowing who the bands were. Most were punk or post-punk.

Don't know if you'll ever see this, but on the off chance that you do-I've watched all of Silver Spoon and enjoyed it immensely! Never would've found it without reading about it here-thanks so much.
