My understanding is that frequency of bathing actually declined in the Middle Ages (possibly because people believed that a good stink would protect them from the plague), well after this historical period.

I wonder if it's historically accurate (I mean, not that it has any bearing on the show itself, I'm just a nerd) that Athelstan could have spoken to the people of Wessex? My understanding is that England was so fractured at the time that people in the different British kingdoms barely understood each other. I'm…
I completely agree with you on that — it's really best used as an aggregate statistic rather than as a diehard litmus test of female representation in movies. That's why I like the totally literal view, because it shows the extent of the problem when you use it as a number over many movies.
Totally agree with SillyRobot — I very much think that the Bechdel test should be used 100% literally, not because women should never talk about men, but because running the numbers like that shows just how dominated women in movies/TV are by men and what they do in all contexts (although I'd also be interested in…
I've seen my fair share of arguments over the place of romance in pop culture, and this is by far the best ending I've ever seen. I hope you crazy kids can make it work!
I actually read that sentence over three times and still couldn't figure out what she was trying to say — I thought maybe the "not" was supposed to go after that terrible comma, because I misplace words in sentences all the time, but even then it's fairly egregious. Only after reading this did I realize that it…
I read this a few days ago and came back just to say — the more I think about this, the more I think you're absolutely right. The actors are trying to make the dialogue as snappy and quick as they can, but the way that footage is then put together and presented completely negates all of that work. Comic scenes lose…
This, exactly. I've never seen Melissa George in anything before, so I don't have any pre-existing biases, but so far I haven't really liked her character in this because, not only does she not seem competent, but she seems incompetently shoehorned into the show. I think it's because the character's only plot is "Be…
Yeah, it is definitely worth sitting through from the start. It's one of the very few shows I've ever seen — possibly the only one — where they've stayed so true to the tone set at the beginning for so long. And you'll just appreciate everything in the later seasons more.
We totally have, at Thanksgiving dinner last season, I think. Definitely at some sort of holiday dinner, anyway. It was pretty amazing then too!
Yeah, I was wondering about that too!
A-
Yeah, I was confused by that — she's like "Until someone comes up with a shot to inject Mila Kunis's metabolism into me" but if you have hypothyroidism that does actually exist. I hope she knows that!

Yes!! When I read the review, the parts that are naturally in the same meter as the episode all jumped out at me immediately, because I was subconsciously reading everything like that so I immediately noticed when it fit. Brains, they're the weirdest!
Similarly, my first memory is of the Eiffel Tower all lit up at night (my parents randomly decided to take a trip all over Europe when I was 2…I have no idea why). So I think Marvin remembering fireworks makes sense.
I just assumed someone made the decision to consolidate all the cultural festivals and Summerfest into one giant summerlong food festival. Seems like a reasonable idea to me.
TypIt would even almost make sense given that "reddit" is supposed to evoke "read it".
"2) It's Norway, for Thor's sake! Not Sweden! NORWAY!"
I…really kind of want this to happen. And the terrible puns only make me want it more.
