Reminds me of a story I heard Tito Puente tell on stage.  "People used to come up to me and say, 'Play that Santana song'.  I always told them, I don't play Santana.  Santana plays Tito."
(everyone laughs)
"Then, I got a check in the mail one day.  Songwriters royalties.  And now….   I play Santana for you!"
"Two,

Oh it is.  Most people aren't aware that they started out as prog-metal.

I would think you could take it for granted that when two members who have been romantically involved split up, no one is going to try to argue that they should keep being in a band together unless they really want to.

YES.  My thought exactly.  I would always rather have a band I love put out one final bad album and choose to ignore it than have them break up when they were still going strong and leave me wondering if they might have had anything left in the tank.  It's pretty easy to not listen to an album.

Didn't scientists cancel The Pluto Volta?

We started with about 60, then kept adding as people made requests.  At one point we were up to about 150.

I used to play in a live-karaoke band.  That was actually surprisingly fun.

If Ben Gibbard were only famous enough to justify it, Will Forte could totally impersonate him on SNL. Or is that already what's going on in that top picture and I"m just out of the loop?

The headline and the picture immediately made me wonder: is 2013 numberwang?

Just introduced some friends to it last month.  Totally holds up.

The Johnathan Richman song "New England" also needs to be mentioned in here somewere.

I've been reading all these posts to see if anyone would mention that one.  Only board game I've ever played that literally makes my heart race. (When you're Mr. X and the other players are deciding where to move and you are on one of the spaces they are considering.)

Which Bush are you referring to?  I could definitely see Barbara as a screaming eel, but Laura seems more like a Rodent of Unusual Size.

That's the first one that would come to my mind.

Uncle Tupelo.

Uncle Tupelo.

Wedding DJs will still be playing "Rolling in the Deep" and "Call Me Maybe" 10 years from now.  It's still absolutely possible for a catchy, well crafted pop song to acheive some semblance of cultural ubiquity, although it is certainly harder now.  WRT your broader argument, I've gotta say, I'm OK with trading some
