To argue one of your points, while I'm not a fan I'd have to say Hanson fits in more with the bands you are sticking up for than in with Right Said Fred. They are still releasing albums and touring and doing pretty well for themselves.
I think the guy from the Alarm is the perfect choice to do the vocals for Big Country. Both bands have a hell of a lot in common, and vocally it isn't that far off.
