I can't believe that any person or group alive today can feel 2000 years of persecution as something that feels different from 200 or 100 years of persecution.

"If any people deserve to have their own peaceful country, it's
definitely the Jewish people, given the hell they've gone through over
the past thousands of years."

I'm a mathematician and a trivia nerd, so I knew about this.

And he works somewhere near, you know, that place that sells chili.

OH MY GOD, I love your user name and picture so much. I'm a college math instructor, and I bring Pringles to class when it's time to talk about hyperbolic paraboloids.

I abso-fricking-lutely love that Flanders is wearing a hat in that scene, when I don't think he's ever worn a hat before or since. He's just wearing a hat to make the joke work (and I guess to evoke a kind of mid-to-late 20th century rat race city commuter sensibility).

Plus, I find that with modern laptops, my fingers are too fat to press the buttons accurately. I need to use a special button-pressing wand.

Billy died at 32 following a motorcycle accident. Benny died at 54 of heart failure.

Fair point. There was definitely a strong element of artificiality. "Here we'll 'plunk down' someone of ethnicity A who dislikes ethnicity B, and then over here, we'll put someone of ethnicity B who dislikes ethnicity C."

I remember watching Ghost World, really liking Thora Birch, thinking "This actress is definitely going somewhere in her career" and barely even noticing Scarlett Johansson.

OK, this may prove to be a controversial opinion, but I'm going to share it:

I live in Newark! Go Blue Hens!

I was about to say "You went to school with Beavis or Butthead?" But then I realized that we *all* went to school with Beavis or Butthead.

I'm with you. I personally find it difficult to follow, and mildly jarring, but that's the worst thing I can possibly say about it. And it's purely a matter of individual style.

One thing you might be forgetting is that pop culture is pretty big.

And why would the "National Grammar Rodeo" be held in another nation?

Monster Island is actually a peninsula.

A solid choice. But I prefer the guy who says "I'm not convinced! I've had bad luck with aphrodisiacs!"

You're on speaking terms with the non-Simpsons watching members of your family?

That's it! Get into the spirit!
