My theory is that Will "gave up" any sort of major ambitions for himself after he didn't win the Oscar for Pursuit of Happyness (which he admitted he thought he was gonna win). Ever since then it's been downhill from a Critical standpoint.

One day the AV Club needs to do a write up of Will's career because it had it's chances. For a guy who never trained professionally as an actor ever, he was able to skate by on his charm and charisma virtually his entire career. Even Jamie Foxx couldn't carry his own sitcom to the extent Will did.

Will's best acting in any project he's done is the episode where his father comes to visit him. The monologue where he's talking about being able to do things for himself because his father was never there to teach him KILLS ME.

Not blaming everything on Joel McHale, BUT had he killed at the White House Roast (or gotten more buzz than "the 2nd stand up after Obama") I think the show would've been saved. I know Country music is big in America, but I absolutely cannot stand having to sit through FOUR country performances that will hog up at least half an hour of the show. Good thing for DVR.
