Mars attacks disturbed me as an adult…The people reduced to heads and unable to touch each other before death the gruesome death of the president .. and so much more. I guess I'd have to be desensitized to enjoy the humor.

I still love the father son interaction. He tries to get his coal miner father to respect him.. "mer-MAN" "mer-MAN"
And at the funerals, Derek delivered the Eu-Googley. (One of my favorite words.)
I don't think Will Ferrel was as good in ANYTHING else. His look alone was priceless, with the tight outfit and poodle like hair.
So many good lines (most of them already repeated in the comments.) But I will repeat more :-) I am not a huge Will Ferrel fan, but he was perfect as Mugatu. "Oh, I'm sorry, did my pin getin the way of your ass? Do me a favor and lose five pounds" "I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!"
I have long wondered why my values are slightly different and more suited to my generation and to the U.S. than those of my European parents or even some kids I grew up with. Then it hit me… PBS. I never watched Saturday morning cartoons (my parents woke up early on weekends.. I don't know what was wrong with them)…
Mika is a great guy to sing along with in order to hone your vocal chops. He is kind of plastic.. but in an entirely bad way.
I'm gonna approach this from the opposite angle. What can pop culture items can be caught up with? In some sense, everything if you are willing to sacrifice a huge amount of time.
Netflix, of course, makes everything easier. I think watching all of Twin Peaks is feasible… and damn worth it. My daughter watched all…
I can verify that as a straight female teenager in the early 80's I kinda noticed that he was good looking… Okay, I admit it… looking at old pics of him now still makes me sigh….
Yeah.. I was there for the 80's (I was born in 1966 i.e. old as the hills) We are finally digging our way out from "morning in America" .. I hope.
I was in high school from 1980 to 1984 aka "the good old days" and I had multiple posters of Adam on my bedroom walls. I thought he was so cool.. and he was.. but also,…. hormones :-)
Yup…"The entropy of a system approaches a constant value as the temperature approaches zero….. and Malcolm Mclaren is an asshole."

Most heterosexual women who grew up in the 80's understand his appeal. It was not intellectual. Oh, Adam….
You know this site is full of music wonks when there immediately multiple corrections after someone mentions that DB has differently colored eyes.
(Sadly, I was going to correct the statement as well… mea culpa)
"Kooks" is one of the sweetest coolest songs sung about parenthood. I remember hearing that song and thinking, "Damn, I wish he was my dad." :-)
I enjoyed it… but then, Like Homer.. Not only do I like the AV club, but I think they keep getting better.

I'll go with Prances with Accent… although Speedballs with River has a certain je ne sais quoi
