Overall this was a great production, and it doesn't surprise me that it's the best of the Hollow Crown. Richard II is a sleeper in the canon—no one thinks much of it until a great actor dusts it off and knocks it out of the park. The power of the tragedy plus our general unfamiliarity with it are a great combination.

I love this debate! I also had mixed feelings on this one, since Henry IV part 1 may be my favorite play and Chimes at Midnight may be my favorite movie, and the complex affection between Hal and Falstaff is so unapparent in this version. Falstaff is too desperate and craven of a character here, Hal too cynical.
