I seem to remember this episode differently too. The ending I remember, Data beams to the planet to discover that the planetary catastrophe had already occurred on the aliens were extinct. Data had been talking to that girl from the past through some sub space abnormality or something.

Well, a post up above mentions Sam Raimi is producing a Shadow remake, Shane Black is working on making a Doc Savage movie, and the guy who directed Wall-E is working on John Carter of Mars. All of those projects sound pretty promising.

Your mileage may vary, rhesus, but I bullied myself into reading through the first six or so trades, and the writing never improved. Though I seem to be in the minority with this opinion.
