One of my all-time favourites. What is better than… SPOILERS (sorta)… O'Brien-Bashir drunken singing?

I will forever stand up for DS9 second season. It was great. I think it's unfairly lumped together with S1 in "pre-Domionion DS9". In fact, it's of much greater quality than the problematic S3.

She's also the helmsman on Enterprise-D in the first season episode where LaForge takes command and battles the invisible weapon. You know, the campy episode where Crusher and Picard end up in a pit talking to a computer.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I believe one of the main reasons why TNG movies were so mediocre is the TV mentality they never really let go off with all the same TV people remaining in charge of the franchise.
I like ST3 as well. Perhaps it's not as good as 2,4 or 6, but it has always invoked this feeling of wide open vistas, that were never really a consistent part of Trek. We see Earth, Starfleet Command, "the new frontier" (Excelsior, Genesis, Marcus's death). It feels big and open-ended, something that is pretty rare in…
Benny Russel: "It's REAL!"
Don't forget the best drunk line in the entirety of Star Trek (well, beside "It's green!"):
My thoughts exactly. Genesis, although endlessly stupid, at least isn't boring. In some twisted abnormal way I have fun watching it.
Oh I'm not so sure. First two seasons of DS9, especially the second, were far, far from bad, and certainly light years ahead of TNG's seasons 1, 2 or 7.
My mistake!
Hmm, I looked it up and you're right! It just seems so silly to me! Why would a nurse be an officer, just like a doctor? Do other modern armies use the same system?
Well, a dermatologist is a doctor. Dentists, lawyers… all those have a bachelor's degree (or whaterver it's called in the US), and therefore may be officers. A nurse, on the other hand, has no higher education, and, as far as I understand it, can't be an officer.
Senior staff is pretty dickish, I'd say. Both Riker and Geordi are very quick to slap around junior officers for no good reason, not just in this episode. Every time some junior officer shows up, those two are bitchslapping them around.
