It's the combined effect of screen size and whatever the hell 3D is supposed to do. Watching it on a normal (small) screen was visually underwhelming and I regret not seeing it in an IMAX theatre, regardless of my feelings toward  3D. It's a shame it's not worth paying to see twice.

For all its oversimplification and melodrama, I liked Traffic a lot and it was my favorite over the other nominated films that year. What's unfortunate is that its popularity spawned many lazy 'hyperlink' films… like Crash.
