Perhaps this is a deer/shaman that ingested a hallucinogenic substance, transmitting the  chemical to his character and the rest of the move is a fever dream where all of the events occur in the drugged mind of Sandler's character…

I think Jay-z hit right when appreciation for hip hop was at its mainstream zenith; it was sort of the point when the greatest number of blacks and non-blacks liked the genre's most popular expressions…He had some indie cred, some older new school cred and hustler cred…

If Jay-z isn't a top 40 artist, who is?  He certainly had more hits than any hip hop artist I can name offhand…

…so why did Bill Cosby punch out Tommy Smothers???

…where's the giant monsters, String?!

…man, I hope that box set includes Basehead, Ultramagnetic MC's, Schooly D, KMD  and Poor Righteous Teachers…If it is by Time/Life, it probably won't…

…remember, the nihilistic materialism of Jay-z is mainstream hip hop…not all of rap culture (thank heaven)….

ditto…

…it's moldy, mom, isn't it?

(this is a reply to Enkidum below)
It is funny that in being whimsical and such was dangerously alternative to the black community and just fun and approachable in the non-black world…Those were radical in their LACK of misogynistic male posturing which made the appeal to more folks that weren't black easier.  "Me,

It wasn't really talked about as embarrassing but it further alienated the Tongues from stereotypical blacks as it made them more of a 'white thing' or 'oreo thing'…Just like any group, there is a ton of diversity within any minority group…The blacks that were into the Native Tongues were called weird or hippies or

Let's back up a second…When Reagan was elected the fist time, I was ten (I am 43 and solidly in Gen X)…The Baby Boomers certainly voted in strong numbers for him but the amount of Boomers that were hippies was probably no more than the amount of punkers in a high school in 1977; a minority…The vast majority of Boomers

I hope what I am about to say isn't perceived of as prejudiced but I always wonder how many references someone who isn't black gets in the music of the Native Tongues specifically…The Native Tongues and, to a lesser extent, some of the acts they influenced seem to reside in a place where they spoke to specifically

..don't say that out loud to folks..Truth told though I agree… De La has 3 great records to Tribe's 2…But I would say Tribe was the biggest act of the Native Tongues..(crossover, blah, blah, blah)

…kinda sad that now the most innovative thing is probably Kanye…Not that he isn't an innovator but the list you gave has 5 classics and 1 unimpeachable best of the genre ever (Illmatic)

got my rhymes than the Winans got family…

As a "black nerd" in the suburbs, the Native Tongues were the first hip hop acts that spoke to me…I liked hip hop before them but I LOVED those groups…

Every New Years, my wife and I watch the "Twilight Zone" marathon and some of his stories are the best ones…RIP…

I have a mix of songs on a disc called "The High Cost Of Living" that is to be played at my funeral..I has a bunch of songs on it like:
In My Time Of Dying —Led Zepplin
Starfish and Coffee—Prince
You're Going to Make me Lonesome When You Go—-Dylan
Journey to Satchitananda—Alice Coltrane
Ladies and Gentlemen We are Foating
