I found it more engrossing and more thriller-esque than Midnight Special. It deserves more than the C+ from your colleague. Its easy to rip on Andrew Garfield, but he did a great job as a beleaguered everyman, even though Shannon's presence overpowered Garfield's character and as an actor.
Has anyone seen 99 Homes? Its not a Nichols movies but it portrays Shannon as a grifting Southern real estate mogul.
It wasn't so much the other characters, but the boy that I found sort of just a walking MacGuffin. The messiah vibe only goes for far, but otherwise I found the boy detached not particularly worthy of such devotion.

Really? I can't help but think 90% are keyboard warriors, IRL they are slightly awkward and maybe go an tangent now and again, but are otherwise generally regular people…regular people who feel warped power that exaggerates the worst parts of them when they log on.
