Please Sir,
Book 3 SPOILER It seems Bronn takes the phrase to heart-he refuses to champion Tyrion at Tryion's trial and instead leaves King's Landing to marry Lollys and and upgrade to knighthood (lordship? I forgot).

Gunn could have known the odds of him surviving were slim, and wanted to go out in a blaze of glory and not take anyone else (human) with him…

I thought they might have been killed during Jasmine's reign? Remember the black guy Gunn met when Angel and Co were hiding out in the sewers? It seemed like that was the only guy from his old neighborhood that got to safety.

Dying as a vampire/unredeemed meant he would spend eternity being tormented in Hell (well, unless he could be brought back somehow, as he was in Buffy). Since eternal torment is still on the table, Angel winning his soul/humanity might change that.

*Edited to add SPOILER
Angel might have gained his son's respect, but he failed in his main goal-to keep Connor safe. Connor's injured in the fight with Marcus, and then has to rough it through Hell-A. SPOILER
In the comics he gets killed (but is resurrected), fighting for Angel again.

Jo Chen is an amazing artist. Her Willow cover (for Time of Your Life) is one of my favorites.

I think the closest Buffy came to an Angel-like decision was in s7 Storyteller. After she gets Andrew to cry (and seal the gate in the school's basement), he asks her what would have happened (if the seal required blood instead of tears to re-seal itself). Buffy just looks at Andrew and walks away-I took it as she

* Edit, just read Jimmy's post, so apologies if some of this sounds redundant.
I think it boils down to stealth and having other priorities. If Angel had sent Wesley with Lindsey, or  Illyria/Gunn with Lindsey, he would have had his guard up. Lindsey's surprise at being shot by Lorne points to that, he even had his

Buffy comics- Time of Your Life (with Fray) is the last good season 8 arc. Wolves at the Gate is one of my favorites. The comics weren't all bad, only the first few arcs were good. The "you know nothing of honor" speech in Wolves is one of the highlights of the series to me, comics or show.

Angel-as-evil was too broad in Power Play, that was my main complaint about that part of the storyline as well. Although, if Angel was granted a sixth season, Whedon and co. probably would have slowed down Angels "turn" and made it more believable.
