I am a huge racist, yes.  Congrats on outing me.

I watched it all for the first time last summer, but I want to wait until I have time to go through the reviews.  I bet I'll be putting it off forever…

@avclub-81e42ebe6b44656990ff91adfd49b5f7:disqus   How does it compare to the 1993 version?  Directed by Cuaron?  That one was lovely, even if substantially different from the book.

I'm not pretending anything.   I'm saying that you can't prove this conversation is only happening between white people.    There is no reason for any given AVClub commenter to announce their race when discussing Community, or Game of Thrones, or Michael Bay.  So how do you really know who's talking here?

I do find it offensive when we're meant to laugh at a woman being beaten, yes.

@avclub-912e79cd13c64069d91da65d62fbb78c:disqus , ads don't have to be lazy and easy.  The amount of money spent on them — producing them and buying air time/screen space — is so large, I continue to be surprised that today's execs would choose to spend energy on this kind of a product.   Did they honestly not see the

"Also it is racist against black people for portraying them as thugs in a line-up."   Yes, because black men are constantly depicted as dirty rotten criminals in media and in news coverage.

thanks for the info!  i like some booze history to go with my racism discussions…

@avclub-87caf7c42aedbada42572e2374eed08d:disqus   I wish I could like your comment twice.  Really well said.

How many people discussing this here are white?  How can you tell?

I agree that's how language  works, but that doesn't mean we can't say it's offensive.

@avclub-c701a997d9bef627835b036efb4eca63:disqus   Awww.  :)

Agreed.   He defines go big or go home.

your responses are killing me.  great work.

Maybe as a hypothetical ad exec, you could make commercials that are edgy without violence?

See above — he did a modern miniseries version for the BBC several years ago.  It didn't use Shakespeare's dialogue, but it was still great.

I don't have time for community theater right now, but in the future I think it's something I'd really enjoy, especially on the production end.

thanks for this.  it just played for nearly 30 minutes before i remembered he has other songs!
