Probably the most depressing thing I'll read all day…

I hear you, but Family Guy influences a lot of young dudes in this country.  Offensive humor isn't shouted into a vacuum, it's mimicked and cheered on by its fans, who then go on to repeat said "jokes" to women and gay folk.

@avclub-4f18f486a356810b3ef8008243bcba7a:disqus   Not to mention that he essentially has the social education of a middle schooler, considering he was discovered at 12.

The Mysterious Edge of the Heroic World is a sort-of sequel to The Outcasts, BTW!  Some of the minor characters get their own story here, and it's a wonderful weird treasure hunt mystery story, but with some chilling European history thrown in.  (It's set in Florida).  And there's a lot of discussion of

All the damn time.  Walk Two Moons gets all the attention, but I loved Bloomability more.  I was desperate to go skiing in the Alps and meet a cute boy like Guthrie!

@avclub-2ea667a5830b59ba21bcd2315ddc2014:disqus  He can't be from the Midwest, because there's definitely a beach in Idaville.  Lake Michigan doesn't count.

@Scrawler2:disqus  Me too!  Not relish though, that's gross.

I feel like this kid is 30 minutes away from a breakdown.  He needs some time away from the cameras.

But @avclub-3bca94e353e508c1a49bf984fc5c346d:disqus wasn't talking about "Tik Tok".  She's not a one hit wonder — we're still talking about her because her new music is still selling.

As well as intermarriage (Jews and WASPs), and divorced parents, and immigrant experiences (Indians), and school play drama, and coping with disability…  Seriously, her books contain everything.

Jennifer, Hecate is also amazing because Jennifer is black, but that's not important.   What's interesting about Jennifer is that she's nerdy and bossy and weird.    This is what sensitive minority representation looks like, and she was doing it in the 60s!

I literally can't write about her without crying, because she wrote 90% of my favorite books as a kid.

@avclub-16db446cafb1ffb1466e71eaf97a4f49:disqus  I like Juno!   I think Diablo Cody went overboard at times, but Ellen Page and Jennifer Garner did a great job with their roles.  So did Allison Janney and the dad…was it J.K. Simmons?

Me too!  I'm glad there are at least two or three people commenting who, you know, actually watched the show being reviewed. I hope this keeps getting covered, at least for a few episodes, and that you guys stick around.

Damn it, now that's stuck in my head!

fuck that noise; I didn't know he did that.

Her less trashy/more sincere songs don't get airplay.  It's easy to hate the dumb stuff.

That was a great movie!

I'm hoping that the "like a girl" remark is more about age and stereotype than a reflection of the show's attitude, since Jake is a good communicator and Matty clearly wants to be too.

Yeah, I was cracking up.  Especially since they kept saying "no offense", as if that made it all OK.
