As someone who lives even farther away and cannot stand Broadway, I'd guess a little of column A and a little of column B. So people are going now just to brag about it, but tickets wouldn't be scarce if there hadn't been some quality to it.

Yeah, youtube pretty much killed off the big HBO special. Comedy Central still does smaller sets, but they're pretty good at getting material online. Otherwise, comics are self-releasing or via Netflix. Has any comedian released a special via Hulu or Amazon yet?
