Spoilers?  I was under the impression that this season ends with the red wedding as the last major event.  Joffrey's wedding comes after the introduction of Oberyn, who they absolutely can't just cut out of the show, and he hasn't been cast for this season.

The Ironborn.  You could start their AFfC plot arc next season too.  And that way, viewers who haven't read the books won't forget who Yara/Asha is, since otherwise that'd be two whole seasons without her.  That, and starting Arianne's/possibly Quentyn's plot arcs starting next season, and you could possibly confine

At least 9 chapters of what will probably be a ~75 chapter book though.

@avclub-f121d09285898f1c66d66f1e6f0455a6:disqus That makes sense.  And you really don't need 20 episodes to adapt the first two books at least.  I guess they could stretch the seasons out to 13 episodes a piece if they really felt like doing seven seasons, but isn't a normal season at HBO 10 episodes to begin with?

And they couldn't make more $$$ if they made a 20 episode season?

I dunno, but I think I will legitimately be switching my allegiance to those who get unduly pissed at how long GRRM takes to write his books if the show ends up spoiling TWoW or ADoS (as opposed to my current allegiance with those who don't let themselves get too worked up over the release date for a fucking book).

I dunno if you can condense AFfC and ADwD into one season.  Unless, do you think they could start with a couple of the Dorne plot arc (specifically Arianne's) next season, the way that they've already started Theon's plot arc from ADwD, except without totally fucking it up?

I dunno if this really counts, but I was listening to some Vampire Weekend a few hours ago on Spotify.  It was the first time I'd ever really sat down and listened to a full album, but after seeing the glowing review that the AV Club gave the new album, I decided to give them a chance.  Anyway, I'm a couple of songs

But what if Jesus had been written into the New Testament as a lion?  That would have been pretty awesome.

I dunno, I think they're both bait-and-switches.  When I was a Christian, I thought that The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe was a bait-and-switch.  I didn't realize that it was allegory until after someone told me, and I first read it in the third grade.  The point that's being made here is that allegory should be

I think I've heard of some fundamentalists having a problem with all the non-Christian elements that were added into the novels (like the way that he just randomly adds Bacchus to Prince Caspian with no regard for narrative or aesthetic coherence).

Animal Farm isn't a kid's story though.

Speaking of movies with Liam Neeson, does the original trilogy being a fun sci-fi western hero's quest, while the prequel trilogy turns out to be a clusterfuck of dull political drama, bad acting, and borderline unintelligible CGI-ed lightsaber battles make "Star Wars" a bait-and-switch?

It could be pretty good.  I'll probably read the first four or five reviews that the AV Club posts and then make a decision on whether to give it a chance.  Abrams has also been involved with some shows that really bombed as well though (see The Event).

Ha, I'm actually a couple weeks behind on but still watching Grimm.  It's definitely a lot better than any of those other shows, but unless something has drastically changed since that South African dude who drank people's tears episode, then it's never really developed into the kind of show I've been hoping it would.

While there's only 102 reasonable discussions going on seems like as good a place as any to ask this, so:  Apart from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., what network shows (if any) should actually be worth checking out this fall?  I should note that I have a pretty terrible track record recently with attempting to watch new

Good episode.  I never thought about how awesome it is that this episode requires viewers to read the signs in order to fully understand what was going on, given that a large portion of the audience is fairly young children.  Good point, Oliver.  Just one more reason to love this show.

The expression on Jake's face when he burst through the wall with the axe was hilarious.  Also, Finn and Jake seem to be really enthusiastic about ideas that will be horribly misinterpreted lately.  Last week with the saying their names in a horse-voice at someone's funeral, and this week, cheerily taking axes to chop

I like the way that Jake was so thorough in his sign making that Finn could say "Jake, what are you implying?  That I would touch your signs after being expressly forbidden?"
