I feel like Rush has been slowly seeping into the realm of "acceptable for hipsters to admit/pretend they like" for the past couple of years now".  Now that it's cool to say: "Hey I like that band that it used to be really uncool to like."  But yeah, I was expecting it to maybe get a couple of votes on a couple of

As someone who tends to listen to a lot more prog than the AV Club tends to review, I was pleasantly surprised to see that "Clockwork Angels" made the list.  Definitely a really solid album.
And I just listened "The Seer" for the first time yesterday and holy shit was that a fantastic album.

@persia2:disqus   [Spoiler] Where was the bit about hiding in the cupboard again?  I kind of forgot.  Was it the part where the one boy was hiding from the CS Lewis equivalent to avoid being sexually abused?  I'm about 99% sure that Lev Grossman is an atheist, but I am like 100% sure that he's a big fan of Narnia, so

Yeah, it was pretty clever, and I really liked four of the stories that it told (and the Faulknerian stream-of-consciousness airplane chapter in the thriller-mystery story), and there were some really interesting thematic parallels between the stories, but it feels like Mitchell couldn't quite bring everything

I seem to recall Tolkien sharing some of your sentiments about Lewis having lazy world-building.  I disagree with you about the overall quality of both Narnia and "His Dark Materials", but it's a fairly valid complaint now that I think about it.

I thought that "The Magicians" was excellent for the most part.  Maybe if I hadn't connected as much with Quentin's generic-college-aged-introvert problems I'd have found the whole thing a bit more tedious, but still, I thought it was really good.  That being said, I felt like "The Magician King" was a bit of a step

@avclub-0f0d67e214f9fef69b278e3d08114da9:disqus  Apart from Fitz's utter mediocrity, and Gailey's overly-conservative playcalling, I think this team is playoff-caliber.  Our defense was horrible for a while, but they've really been clicking lately.  They've given up 20 or less points in every game but one since the

I haven't read "number9dream", but I just finished "Cloud Atlas", which was amazing, but not as quite as mind-blowingly incredible as it's made out to be, and I read "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob DeZoet" a few months ago, and loved it.  Probably a less uneven work than "Cloud Atlas" even if it's not nearly as famous.

That's because "The Incredibles" is a fucking amazing movie.  I haven't seen "Brave" though.  Haven't seen a Pixar film since "Toy Story 3".

"The Campaign" was a surprisingly decent movie.
