Yeah, I first read the book when I was a seventh grader who cared more about how exciting the book was than I did about the message of the book, and I honestly didn't even realize that Pullman was an atheist.  It's really pretty subtle in the first book, I honestly just thought at the time that it was a world where

I have two comments.  First:  Watch Parks and Rec!  The first season is said to be a bit weak, but the second season gets amazing, the third season is probably one of the greatest seasons of a comedy show in recent years, the fourth season was great, and the fifth season has still been very good so far.  Second:  I've

@avclub-782066c88e9c574d6085f3ddfc7032e4:disqus Yeah, it was definitely more of an episodic quest, so you're right, it's totally conceivable that they could work it out into three movies.  And even a three-and-a-half hour movie like the extended "Fellowship of the Ring" dropped a couple of chapters worth of material

Fitz was good until he got that contract extension.  Then I think it just became more explicitly clear that he is a marginal NFL quarterback.  I mean, I don't dislike the guy personally, he seems like a respected leader in the Bills' locker room, and when you think about it, a 7th round draft pick becoming a starter

"The Great Escape" was my all-time favorite escape film until I saw "Toy Story 3".  It's such a great film, and I second @avclub-6997a8bd0e1042b70b60c5c879a1780e:disqus in needing to see "The Great Escape" again, as I don't believe I've seen since I was in the eighth grade.

You guys will make the playoffs, although I was thinking the Saints were going to make a real game of it there in the 3rd when it was 35-27.  I'm looking forward to the Giants matchup with the Falcons next week almost as much as I'm looking forward to tonight's Pats-Texans game.  In other football news, my

Definitely the best indie title, for a title that falls into the "The (Unusual Adjective) of (Unusual Name)" trope.

Now that I think about it, Holes WAS a pretty fantastic book.  And yeah, just like many of the best of childrens' books, it's non-beating-you-over-the-head-with-a-generic-ethical-message moral ambiguity was refreshing.

Whoa, glad to hear that it was a false-positive.  I originally glossed over the first couple of lines (not realizing the seriousness of the story) and my mind glossed over the "happy ending" spoiler alert, so I was relieved to hear that you were OK.  I can't imagine how stressful that scare must have been.

Hang the fuck on.  I seriously thought that everyone calling it "The Hobbit Trilogy" was just thinking of "The Lord of the Rings Trilogy" and getting confused, but apparently it is indeed a trilogy.  How in the actual fuck are they going to make a ~250 page book into a ~8-9 hour film trilogy?  Is this not slightly
